  The Red Dachshund

The oldest color around is the red dachshund.  They come in a array of red colors. This can e referred to anything from a deep mahogany red or a pale golden colored red. They maybe a clear red or have many black hairs mixed into their coats especially around the ears or along the top of the back. Many puppies will have black hairs mixed in, only to get redder as they get older. Especially, the longhair puppy. The red dachshund should have black eyes, a black nose, and black nails unless it is a "chocolate based" red also called a "liver-nosed" red. This is the result of a chocolate & tan and a red dachshund bred together and they will have the same nose and nail color as the chocolate & tan dog. For a red to produce black & tans, then it must carry the tan point gene. A red that does not carry the tan point gene will always have red puppies.
