Texas Tail Wagger's

Country raised Dachshunds from The Lonestar State!
Cut-N-Shoot, TX
ADOPTION
Due to the expense, we are no longer taking in independant rescues & owner surrenders. We are now working with a shelter to foster those that are in immediate danger or being put to sleep which includes puppies. We also will placing some of our retired dachshunds & previous rescue dachshunds.
About The
Dogs
It can be hard on them going from one home to another. You must be
understanding and loving. We also have many senior dachshunds which due to their
age many do not want to adopt them. Many have never experienced the love and
life they should of had. They deserve so much love in their golden years even if
it is only for a short time. Once the comfort level goes up, the need to stick to
you like Velcro will go down. Others may be a little more stand offish, and
within time will learn to trust you and will come to you slowly. This means they
need patience, love and guidance to fit into your world. When you open your
heart and your home to a dog that needs help, they really do show their
appreciation for the rest of their life! Dogs that have been uprooted from their
homes, or have had difficult beginnings are likely to bond completely and deeply
with their new human caretakers who they view as heroes. With an adult dog, what
you see is what you get. Their personality is already developed, and you'll be
able to spot the characteristics you're looking for much more easily than with a
puppy.
Environment
Our primary concern is
to find the right dog for the right home. We can tell you if a dog will be
happiest with other dogs or without other dogs in the home, if they will be okay
with cats, and if they'll be okay with children of certain ages.
We work with applicants
to find the right energy level of dog for their family and the right
temperament. We want to ensure that this adoption will be the last one our
dachshund must face.
Homes with fenced yards are
strongly preferred, but exceptions are made based on the size, age and activity
level of the dog. We do accept applicants that live in apartments or other
rental situations, as long as the landlord approves of the adoption. We require
a landlord reference for all renters.
Adoption
Process
1.)
View our list of adoptable adult dachshunds & fosters below.
2.)
Email
us and we will send you our ADOPTION APPLICATION
in Microsoft Word
format which you will need to fill out completly and email back to us. List the names of all
the dogs you're interested in. Our main concern is matching the right do to the
right home. If you don't currently see a dog that matches
your family, please tell us more about what you're looking for. We will contact
you if a dog comes in that meets your requirements. Don't forget to list the
name and number of your current veterinarian and landlord, if applicable! We
will contact your current vet, landlord and personal references.
3.) After we receive your application, we'll contact you to discuss the
specifics of what you're looking for. We will try to contact you within 3-7
days, so be patient with us!
4.) Once we have completed all reference
checks, we will schedule a visit with you in our home where you can meet your
desired adult dachshund. Most but not all our dachshunds are in our home but we
do have some which are in foster home and not in one central location. We will
only schedule one visit at a time per dog.
5.) Any puppy or dog you see listed as MCAS are being fostered for our local shelter & a separate adoption application needs to be filled out for them. Please contact us though before doing so we can help you make the process an easy one.
"Tigger" came from a previous outside kennel. Tigger has the funniest personality and will
keep you laughing with his silly grin. The more you talk to him to more
he loves to show you his pearly whites. He loves attention and gets
along well with other dogs. Crate/doggie door trained.
Calm but still loves to play.

Sex: Male
"Dottie" came from a previous outside kennel and has come a long ways
and overcome many obstacles. When she came to us she was not being housetrained or very socialized, it took her a long
time to get use to being indoors & was very shy, freaking out over
noises or anytime someone came around. Now, she is the most lovable
girl there is and is looking for love in all the right places. She is still a leary of strangers but no longer
runs to hide and after awhile will warm up to them. She is the perfect
cuddler and adores those that give her the attention. Dottie is
overweight and needs to be on a strict diet and excercise program to
help her loose the weight. She already lost several pounds & needs to
lose at least 5 pounds. House trained and doggie
door trained. Shows no agression at all. See more on
her page at:
http://www.txdachshunds.com/dottie.html
"Rosey" has
a wonderful coat and loves to sit and be brushed. She is a happy
friendly girl and enjoys being a lap dog. She has been raised in our
home since birth and is very friendly. We would like to see her to go to a forever loving home
where she will be spoiled rotten. She gets along with all the
other dogs. She does bark when smaller children are around and
prefers to stay clear of them & also at people she does not know. No
children under the age 6. House trained, crate trained and doggie door
trained. See more on
her page at:
http://www.txdachshunds.com/rosey.html
Sex: Female
"Princess"
is such a teddy bear who loves to cuddle and enjoys being hugged. She is
very sweet and passive just like both her parents who are permanat
residents in our home. Has whelped 2 large number litters with the last
resulting in a c-section. While we substitued by helping her feed the
pups, her tits have some sag to them. She has been retired and should
not be breed under any circumstances. Standard size. House trained, crate trained and
doggie door trained.
No small children or cats, prefer older couple or settled home. See more on
her page at:
http://www.txdachshunds.com/princess.html
"Dolly"
is such a doll baby! She is the perfect little lap dog. She loves to
play with all her toys and sleep with them. She is very laid back but
loves to play with others. Has one blue eye. Dolly is house trained and
doggie door trained. One of our own, raised in our home since a puppy.
House, crate & doggie door trained. No small children or cats. Has
whelped 2 litters & should not be bred. See more on
her page at:
http://www.txdachshunds.com/dolly.html
Sex: Female
"Texas"
is quite the gal! She has the classical hound dog dachshund features. If
you are looking for someone to show you how happy they are to see you
the minute you get home and walk in the door, she is the one. She has a
wonderful sweet personality and just loves to be happy all the time. A
little shy of strangers but once she warms up, you will be showered with
love from this girl. Not sure why, but ever since we took her in, she is
very skittish of men & tends to run from them.
House broke, crate trained and
doggie door trained. No small children or cats. See more on
her page at:
