We occasionally have adults that have either been given to us versus going to a shelter, are rescues, or may be one of our breeders that need to be placed in a loving home. It can be hard on them going from one home to another. Be understanding and loving. Once the comfort level goes up, the need to stick to you like Velcro will go down. Others may be a little more stand offish, and within time will learn to trust you and will come to you slowly. This means they need patience, love and guidance to fit into your world. When you open your heart and your home to a dog who needs help, they really do show their appreciation for the rest of their life! Dogs who have been uprooted from their homes, or have had difficult beginnings are likely to bond completely and deeply with their new human caretakers who they view as heroes. With an adult dog, what you see is what you get. Their personality is already developed, and you'll be able to spot the characteristics you're looking for much more easily than with a puppy.
There are many dachshund rescues looking for wonderful owner's too. Our primary concern is to place the right dog into the right home. Please go to this website to find a dachshund rescue near you. This sweet pretty red boy is Smooch, a standard size (apprx. 15 lbs.) Poor Smooch really needs to be able to become a much loved family pet. Smooch was previous used as a kennel stud and is 8 years old. We obtained him at another breeders where he and 6 others were kept in an outside pen. I had only planned on getting one dog, but when I seen how they were living , I took all of them, hoping to place them into a good loving home. The falling apart doghouse was in a hole so deep, only the roof was sticking out, when it rained, the hole filled up with water. I have placed everyone but Smooch. He is very smart and listens very well. He is shy at first and is more on the quiet reserved side. But once he gets to know you, he warms right up. Makes a good watch dog. We have been working with him coming indoors and feel with some patience, he would adapt to a home life very well. Use to a doggie door. We don't know whether he has been around cats or small children and probably would not suggest it. Gets along great with our other dogs but would probably enjoy being just being spoiled as a lap dog. Will be required to be neutered before leaving our premises. UTD on all shots (including rabies), worming, & heartworm preventative. Tigger is a 3 year old smooth red brindle piebald carrier. He has the sweetest personality and will just crack you up with his constant smiling. The more you talk to him the more he loves to show you his pearly whites. He is a proven stud and has given us some beautiful brindle and brindle piebald babies. Kisses is a 3 year old black/tan piebald who loves to give
kisses. She loves to be cuddled up in your lap. We would love to see her go to a
home where she will be the center of attention and be spoiled rotten. She gets
along great with other dogs and children but has never been around cats. She is
